Mapss Solutions

MAPSS solutions are based on extensive consultation with stakeholders, in-depth research, and field data collection. The solution is implemented and maintained using the latest technology, and support workflows to monitor, manage and report on project objectives, all of which allow for outputs that can be measured against social and ecological baselines.

MAPSS solutions lead to better, faster, and more effective decisions.

What is a solution?

A MAPSS solution supports the entire workflow associated with developmental projects:

01

We start by asking questions to identify the problem – what are the problems and where are the problems located?

02

We then propose management interventions centred on data collection routines to track key performance indicators (ecological, social, and economic). We develop mobile applications that allow field data collection and use remote sensing to complement the field data component.

03

Data is automatically uploaded to a centralised database, which links to dynamic dashboards providing:

  • Real-time updates on changes in key performance indicators and;
  • Insights where interventions can be focused to achieve project goals.

04

Sophisticated analytics allow for modelling tools to analyse data, visualize patterns, and make predictions to ensure that management interventions have maximum impact.

05

Each solution includes customised online reporting tools that allow users to take advantage of these analytics, report on the effectiveness of interventions and enable sharing with stakeholders.
We follow the Plan, Implement, Operate and Review Strategy to develop a solution and maximise its impact.

First, we identify the problem. To do so, we engage with key executives, programme managers, and frontline practitioners to define the solution requirements and verify that all ecological, social, and economic objectives are met. Second, we map these to specific technical requirements and create feature sets that serve as the integrated development framework. During this phase we also identify key performance indicators (social, ecological and economic) to monitor and track the success of interventions. Third, working prototypes are delivered to the client as often as possible. This allows us to continuously review and refine requirements at each stage of the development process and ensure the highest value is delivered with each release. Lastly, we look for opportunities throughout each development stage to integrate existing technologies and data into new, unified solutions to extend the value of capital investment.

Solution Examples:

Protected Area Management Solution

Protected Area Management Solution for ArcGIS

We help protected area management staff to implement intelligent systems for the vast array of critical data that they collect. Enabling them to make informed and timely management decisions.
Integrated Fire Management Solution

MAPSS Fire

We provide clients with a cost-effective solution that detects active fires, integrates planning and prevention strategies, and advances reporting and fire statistics to assess and inform national, provincial, and private stakeholders.
Roodeplaat Dam Catchment Restoration

IoT Connector for ArcGIS

We built an IoT Connector for ArcGIS that allows users to leverage real-time data for essential operational decisions such as tracking assets or remote monitoring.
Agrisys Tanzania

Agrisys Tanzania

We’ve collaborated with Newcastle University on a GCRF funded project in the Kilombero Valley in Tanzania. We investigated how conserving natural habitats (forests, grasslands) affects productivity on smallholder and industrial farms.
